Our speakers will be Jack Bialosky Jr., AIA, and David Craun, AIA, of Bialosky & Partners Architects in Cleveland, Ohio presenting It Takes a Village to Raise a Partner

A roundtable discussion will allow participants to examine the road to Partnership as one that requires equal ownership of the process by both older and newer leaders of the firm. This model of shared ownership asks experienced Partners to strategize in growing and harvesting the next generation of leadership together with future firm leaders. A culture of empowerment and self-driven responsibility proves to be the soil for Emerging Practitioners (EPs) to not only bloom, but to also take roots in the firm. The session asks what must emerge from EPs to allow their growth within this strategy, but in a fashion that fits him/her personally.
Managing Partner of Bialosky + Partners Architects, Jack A. Bialosky, Jr., AIA, IIDA, LEED AP, will host this roundtable with David W. Craun, AIA, LEED AP, who earned the first intern-to-partner promotion in the firm’s history.

Jack A. Bialosky, Jr., AIA, LEED AP,
Managing Partner at Bialosky + Partners Architects

Jack A. Bialosky, Jr. leads one of the Midwest’s most successful and collaborative architecture firms, Bialosky + Partners Architects.

Jack A. Bialosky, Jr., the son of one of Cleveland’s first modern architects, assumed leadership of a firm widely known for its modern residential and religious projects. After working at Kallman McKinnell & Wood Architects in Boston, Jack returned to Cleveland to initiate 20+ years of stewardship of his father’s small local firm, Bialosky + Partners Architects. The firm is known for the quality of its designs, the trust of their clients, the longevity of its staff, and the diversity of its portfolio. In addition to design awards, the firm garnered the 2013 Northcoast 99 Award that recognizes the highest ranked workplaces in Northeast Ohio across all sectors. In 2009, the firm was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as an AIA Ohio Gold Medal Firm, the highest honor awarded by its peers, in recognition of great depth and breadth, a collaborative environment, and having a cumulative effect on the profession over a substantial period of time. Jack’s initiative to seek out other collaborative designers and artists has resulted in ongoing partnerships with designers such as Maya Lin and Architecture Research Office.

David W. Craun, AIA, LEED AP,
Partner at Bialosky + Partners Architects

With a Masters in Urban Design from Kent State University fresh in hand, David joined Bialosky + Partners in 2003 as one of the firm’s most well-rounded designers. Now, ten years later, David made history at Bialosky + Partners when he earned the first intern-to-partner promotion in the firm’s 62 year history. As Principal and Director of Design, he oversees the creative process for many of the projects within the AIA Ohio Gold Medal Firm, from inception to completion. In 2014, David earned the Emerging Practitioner Award from AIA Cleveland. David was recently named to ENR Midwest’s Top 20 Under 40, which recognizes 20 young design and construction professionals per region, under the age of 40, who have made significant contributions to their firms, professions and communities.
He keeps a solid foot in both the worlds of theory and practice – theory through teaching at Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and practice through his work at Bialosky + Partners. He has led firm planning and design efforts for Crocker Park, the highly acclaimed 4,000,000 square foot mixed use center that has become a national model for New Urbanist development. He has also led in the award-winning design of The Ben and Jane Norton Culinary Arts Center at LCCC.
