Dr. David Schuller, VP OSU Wexner Medical Center Expansion Project, Henry Chao, AIA, Principal HOK, Paul Strohm, AIA, Director of Healthcare HOK, and Ted Athanas, Principal BR+A will discuss the design and completion the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and Critical Care Center. This facility is a $600M component of the largest building project in Ohio State University's history -the new $1.1 Billion Wexner Medical Center Expansion Project (aka Project ONE). This panel will share their 7-year journey together through planning, programming and design to achieve a vision the University had for over 20 years for such a facility. The changes in healthcare, the incorporation of a translational approach to medicine, the inclusion of radiation oncology in a new way, the challenges of connection and operational flow, the integration of mechanical and other systems, and the special features of the building will be discussed.
This presentation and discussion will serve to encourage the attendees to attend a subsequent AIA tour of the facility just prior to
opening.

Join AIA Columbus' Academy of Architecture for Health at their next project presentation on August 25th! Thomas Chidlow, AIA and Anastasia Markiw, AIA will review the transformation of the Washington Health System CARE Center for Family Birth and Women’s Health. Tom, a principal of the DesignGroup Pittsburgh office, is also the Co-Chair of the Pittsburgh AAH Chapter. Anastasia is the Chair of the AIA Pittsburgh YAF (Young Architects Forum) and member of the Pittsburgh AAH Chapter. Their focus will be on the 22,000 SF obstetrics unit that helped Washington Health System align the patient and staff environment with the innovative medical care provided by the hospital. Emphasis will be on quality of care, safety and security, and an inviting interior environment that is supportive of patients, family and staff alike.
