Building tours are organized by the Emerging Professionals Committee.
Tour of the Highlands Park Family Aquatic Center: May 20, 2011
Located in the Heart of Westerville, Highlands Park Family Aquatic Center involved the demolition of an existing pool facility and the construction of a new public aquatic complex.
Sited adjacent to protected wetlands, the project incorporates a variety of sustainable measures, including bioswales, rock gardens, pervious concrete parking areas, rain retention & water management strategies, green roofs and natural material selections. It is pursuing LEED Silver Certification.
Amenities in the Aquatic Center include a six lane competitive pool with diving well, large leisure pool, a zero entry toddler pool, two 30' high water slides, a lazy river, large spray ground and many toddler water features & play areas. There are four main structures on the site which house administration, restrooms, concessions and equipment buildings. Faux rock structures are used throughout the site which feature water falls into the pools and planting beds in an effort to emphasize the natural theme of the park.

Denison University's Ebaugh Lab Renovation: April 8, 2011
Ebaugh Labs was built in 1965 to house the university’s chemistry department and program. It has served its purpose well but wear and tear and pedagogical changes require the complete renovation of the building. The three story brick shell of the existing main building will remain and the interior will be completely gutted and renovated. The floors and some walls will remain and all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems will be installed.
The existing above ground single story structure connecting Ebaugh Labs to Herrick Auditorium, the round auditorium space to the east of the main building, will be removed. A new three story brick clad structure will be added to the east of the existing building. Herrick Auditorium and Ebaugh will remain connected to Ebaugh underground and there will be a small brick rest room addition added to the south east of Herrick.
A smaller single story brick clad addition and three story elevator/stair tower will also be added to the west and north of the existing building.
Windows will be replaced in the existing building, a new central stair tower with roof skylights will be added in the interior core of the existing building. Limited landscaping will be provided with walks and seating areas provided for pedestrian circulation. Fire lane access will be maintained around the site.
The new building will contain state of the art teaching and research laboratory space, classrooms, offices and support spaces for the Chemistry Department faculty, students and visitors. All new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, data and other support systems will be provided in the anticipated LEED Silver building.

The new addition by Architectural Alliance adss 49,275 square feet to an exisiting 63,675 s.f. building. First and second floors are Volvo & Porsche sales and service, while the third and fourth floors are dedicated to administrative offices and an executive suite. A 3,500 s.f. roof is planned for the fourth floor which will employ a Bison Pedestal System to support granite pavers. The expected date of completion is May 15th.

Building Tour of Phillip Markwood Architects' Columbus State Community College Academic Center "E" Project - June 4, 2010
Columbus State Community College has developed a new LEED Silver academic building to become the core of a new branch campus in rapidly growing Delware County, CSCC is embracing environmental stewardship holistically with a sustainable building, site, campus and academic courses offered to students.
The design brings together all of the functions of a basic college campus in an open Learning Center environment. The South facade of the learning commons is visually connected to the native landscape with a curtain wall system which includes sunshades, insulated aluminum panels, translucent panels, and various tints of high performance glazing to control sunlight. Interior glazing is used extensively to draw daylight and views into the core of the building. The learning commons is unified under a sloping metal roof with long overhangs for daylight control. Extensive research on building orientation, building envelope, mechanical options and electrical systems were integrated into the project design. Recycled, regional and low-emitting materials define the building spaces. Raised flooring in the learning commons provides additional adaptability, flexibility and control of technology, electrical and mechanical systems.
